With the aid of the very fun book, New York Year by Year: A Chronology of the Great Metropolis by Jeffrey A. Kroessler, I previously presented you with the ten most amazing historical moments in NYC in 1967. Today, I use the same volume to look at the most significant moments of 1906:

• Abraham Lincoln’s log cabin was temporarily stored in College Point.
• Singing waiter Irving Berlin published his first song.
• Harry K. Thaw killed architect Stanford White atop Madison Square Garden.
• The Happy Land Amusement Park opened in South Beach, Staten Island.
• Pygmy Ota Benga was displayed in a cage at the Bronx Zoo.
• Long Island farmer/poet Bloodgood Haviland Cutter died.
• John Jacob Astor IV acquired the Knickerbocker Hotel.
• The Morgan Library was built.
• Carnegie libraries opened in Elmhurst and Flushing.
• The 69th Regiment Armory opened on Lexington Avenue.
