From the December 12, 1938 Brooklyn Daily Eagle:

“Nashua, N.H. — The Beacon Animal Farm today boasted a dog with a glass eye. Jackie, a Dalmatian, lost an eye in a fight. Owner John T. Benson summoned a specialist and had it replaced with a glass one.”
